Problem
Research reveals that hospitalization experiences for children can result in long-term trauma, a spectrum of negative emotions, and overall fear and discomfort.
Intervention
With literature proving that positive spatial design can reduce the negative effects of hospital treatment, SenseScape’s playful and interactive design keeps families engaged while seamlessly supporting occupational therapy exercises.
Key Results
- Designed an interactive experience from scratch, programming over 800 lines of code on p5.js, a JavaScript-based creative coding language.
- Observed successful user testing sessions with kids aged 5 and below as well as adults aged 19 - 40.
- Participated in field research, collecting over 3 hours of contextual insights from conversations with a nurse and Pediatric Occupational Therapist at the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in San Francisco.
